Celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III

This weekend was a historic moment in the UK with the coronation of their majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla. Delve into the Cambridge Satchel archives, back to when the royal couple visited our workshop, and find out how we’re celebrating the occasion.

Back in February 2020, we were honoured to host the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall for a special visit to our workshop in Syston, Leicestershire. As we are long-time partners with the Royal Opera House and The Prince’s Foundation - two organisations that the King is very closely acquainted with - we invited their majesties to watch our collaboration bags being made.

King Charles graciously unveiled a commemorative plaque and tried his hand at our manual embossing process. Our visitors were the first to sign a beautiful guest book, and King Charles was gifted a bespoke canvas and leather Gardening Bag and leather Highland Cow Key Charm. Queen Camilla was presented with a small Traveller Bag crafted in Harris Tweed and Brandy colour leather, The Doctors Bag in French Grey and a Bee Key Charm.

We treasure this visit to this day and are ecstatic to be seeing their majesties crowned on 6 May 2023. To celebrate the occasion with you, we are giving away some beautiful Guardsmen Charms, made especially for the coronation, with every purchase over £250 until May 8th. Made from leather offcuts that would have otherwise gone to waste, these charms will become a small memento of a momentous occasion to carry with you throughout your life.
